3d titles are 2d only

Working with 3d titles for the first time in X, but for the life of me, I can't seem to get the "3d" to work e.g. everytime I select the title I can only get the X and Y axis. The color handles don't appear to manipulate the axis', I've checked the styles, nothing. I must be missing something here, do I have to enable the 3d somehow? Thanks for ANY help. (Note: I have not upgraded to 12.3 yet)

Click off the title on another clip (underneath?) then select the Title in the storyline again. Move the cursor up over the text. The text should outline the bounding box and the cursor should change to an arrow with cross arrows on the lower right. Click once on the text. You should get the 3D onscreen control. If you hold down the command key, you'll get an enhanced OSC for rotation (the XY&Z axes will highlight at once and holding down the command key, you can click in the "orb" region to rotate all directions at once.) To edit the text after the 3D controls appear: double click on the text. Once you get the text edit action going, you pretty much have to deselect the title (with the storyline active, Command-Shift-A) then select the title in the storylline again.

Even when you get it "down" - it can still be a little flaky, so be "deliberate" dealing with it.

Hi tc

Sounds like you do not have depth set for your 3D text font in the Text inspector pane. If at zero or low # text will appear 2D.

Here are a couple of vids from Ripple Training that also includes links to some free plug-in downloads for 3D text that will greatly increase this feature. They also have some other nice free plug-ins.

Alex 4d also has some great plug-ins. http://alex4d.com/

There are lots of other excellent tutorials on FCPX 3D text on YouTube or Vimeo or FCP.co

Hope this helps, Greg
