Sometimes when I search my e-mail I find a hundred copies of the same e-mail. I just found an e-mail with 80 copies, so
I stopped counting. The e-mail was cc'd to four people.
This is an iMac with Yosemite 10.10.5.
Do you know what this is about and what I should do about it?

Sounds like you may need to rebuild your mailbox. You need to do this for each mailbox that has the problem (Inbox, Sent, etc...).
Note that the mailbox will be empty until the rebuild is complete and the rebuild can take some time if you have a lot of emails and attachments.
