Final Cut Pro keeps crashing and I cannot reset my preferences!

Just like the title says. Final Cut is crashing at the slightest provocation. I cannot even open a project or attempt to import a file before it crashes.

I tried the usual "Reset Preferences" troubleshooting that all of the help files suggest, but apparently said preferences files DO NOT EXIST on my system. I tried searching and unhiding and everything. What do I do?
