Why will iTunes play an mp3 file but does not see it?

I'm in pre-production for a new safety-based podcast program. I have downloaded a number of PSA's (Public Service Announcements) from affiliated sites. I have set iTunes as my default music app. I'm using an older Gateway NV52 laptop with Windows 10. I have also added the folder to iTtunes' library.

If I double click the file, iTunes will play it. But it does not appear anywhere in the iTunes library, no matter if I choose the folder that contains all the PSA's.

I'd appreciate your advice.

Thanks!

Use the Songs view, enable the Last Played column and sort by it in descending order. Your most recently played file should be at the top of the list. Ctrl+L should also reveal the currently playing track.
