No new updates?

I've recently been given a macbook air by my parents and there seems to be no updates past 10.6.8. I'm not quite sure how old this Mac air is but I really need the update for school. Is there any way I can fix this???

Thanks,

Brandii

OK, I believe you will be able to do the following:

  1. Purchase Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8): http://www.apple.com/shop/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
  2. Update this to at least OS X 10.8.5. Do this by clicking the Apple Logo and choosing "Check For Updates" (or going to the App Store and choosing the "Updates" tab).
  3. If possible (it may not be), upgrade to El Capitan (which is the current release of OS X -- OS X 10.11) here: http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/
  4. If you did the El Capitan upgrade, again go to the App Store, choose "Updates" and update everything.

UPDATE - Sorry, you may be able to go to El Capitan directly from OS X 10.6.8. Read the http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/ to see.
