iMovie 11 Import video from Canon ZR600

I just recently got a new PowerBook to replace my old MacBook from early 2008. I love it. Anyway, hooked up an old camcorder (Canon ZR600) via DV to firewire cable, firewire 400 to 800 adapter and thunderbolt to firewire adapter. Neither iMovie 11 or Quicktime Player recognize it. Anyone have any suggestions or is the camcorder simply too old? I have a couple dozen MiniDV tapes I want to import and work on. Thanks.
