Feb 29, 2016 1:38 AM in response to Hoorndolby sterling r,★HelpfulHi there Hoorndol,
It sounds like you have an external monitor connected that isn't being recognized when your computer wakes from sleep, but restarting the computer will make it work again. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article for external monitor issues, found here:
Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac
This section in particular:
...restart your Mac in safe mode to reset the display resolution to defaults.
...reset your Mac's NVRAM and SMC to reset the video ports on your Mac to their defaults.
Be sure to test out the monitor after each of these steps. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, let us know how that goes if you please!

Feb 29, 2016 1:44 AM in response to sterling rby Hoorndol,Unfortunately, none of the suggested solutions worked. I also tried a new cable, Thunderbolt (mini displayport) to HDMI. Again: no improvement. I have to start the computer every morning twice or more to have finally a connection.
Greetings,
Ron

Feb 29, 2016 4:35 AM in response to Hoorndolby Luis Sequeira1,Instead of starting, what about:
1) unplugging and replugging the cable
or
2) holding down the option key in System Preferences->Displays and pressing "Detect Displays"?

No, I tried these two options also several times, with no succes.
I think on this moment I have two options left:
1. re-install El Capitan (would that help? Is it a MacOs failure?)
2. Bring the Mac back to the dealer for repair (but I'm not so pleased bu the idea of missing this Mac for a few weeks...)
