Q: Importing photos from my iphone 5c to my macbook pro

I hook up my iphone 5c to my macbook pro (2015 model /all latest updates/ yada yada yada) yet the photos do not import nor do i get prompted to import. No box to click nada...I have checked all the boxes in preferences so it should work. The two devices recognize each other. I sync with itunes, I look in iphotos and in iphotos yet nada... que pasa amigos? Thanx...
