Mail doesn't recognize contacts from address book when typing

Hi, I need some help with my MAIL application.

Normally when sending new mails, I used to digit the first 1-2 letters of the name (or last name) and automatically MAIL would finish and complete the address with the right contact from my address book (or giving me more options)... I mean, it all was great.

Recently It doesn't anymore. When I type some letters, MAIL gets stuck for a few minutes and only then it will give me options and address, but it does take MINUTES, blocking the program and not letting me do another thing within the application.

It started with Yosemite, now I've installed El Capitan, with a new clean installation and it does it again! I really don't know how it could be possible since it is all fresh and updated,

can someone help?

thanks

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), problem started in Yosemite
