Q: WiFi connection error after country change

Hey,

I am using an iPhone 5s and since I moved to the Netherlands this weekend some apps can't connect anymore (e.g. GameCenter, Clash of Clans) using WiFi. Other Apps can connect easily and I can also surf on the internet. I tried different Hotspots aswell. My Phone is running on the latest Software update (iOS 9.2.1). Restarting didn't help (obviously, the error appeared due to changing country...), I changed DNS to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. - didnt do a thing to it either.

Does this have anything to do with my WiFi settings? Is there anything country-specific?

My Laptop also struggles with connecting several programs but it's not an Apple-device.

I'm very thankful for any help.

Cheers,

Tyasi

    Howdy Tyasi,

It sounds like you moved to a different country and now your Game Center and some of your apps cannot connect to your account anymore. This is because you need to change the country associated with your Apple ID. This article will help you do that, but there are some caveats that you should keep in mind:

Change your iTunes Store country or region

What you need know before you change your country or region

When you change your iTunes Store country:

    • Update your billing address to one in your new country. When you change your billing address, the primary address for your Apple ID and your other Apple services, such as the App Store and iCloud, automatically updates.
    • You might need to update your payment method. For example, only German credit cards can be used to buy content from the German iTunes Store and App Store.
    • You won't see the items that you purchased from the previous country’s store in your Purchased section.
    • You won’t see the items from your iCloud Music Library that you matched, uploaded, or added from the previous country’s store.

When you make a purchase in the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store, the country in your iTunes Store account information must match the country listed on your Apple ID account page.

Find out what to do if you can't change your country or region.
