Keynote opens window at wrong size

Keynote 6.6.1. When I open an existing file, or even just create a new blank presentation, the window is the wrong size (typically, about 300x100 pixels in size, located at the lower left of my main monitor).

Console log shows this:

2/9/16 8:29:24.732 AM Keynote[1170]: Unable to simultaneously satisfy constraints:

(

"<NSLayoutConstraint:0x7f93a0ed2e40 H:[NSVisualEffectView:0x7f93a0eba560(>=126)]>",

"<NSLayoutConstraint:0x7f93a1228580 H:[NSVisualEffectView:0x7f93a0eba560(<=-226)]>"

)

Will attempt to recover by breaking constraint

<NSLayoutConstraint:0x7f93a1228580 H:[NSVisualEffectView:0x7f93a0eba560(<=-226)]>

Set the NSUserDefault NSConstraintBasedLayoutVisualizeMutuallyExclusiveConstraints to YES to have -[NSWindow visualizeConstraints:] automatically called when this happens. And/or, break on objc_exception_throw to catch this in the debugger.

This started when I updated from 10.10 to 10.11.

More info:

  • If I am running only a single monitor (the retina book's built-in monitor) the problem doesn't happen
  • If I am running two monitors (built-in monitor + external apple thunderbolt monitor) but am set to Mirroring mode, the problem does not happen
  • If I am running two monitors (built-in monitor + external apple thunderbolt monitor) but am not Mirroring, then the problem DOES happen.

So this seems like a bug with Keynote or 10.11 itself.

Note: Under System Preferences / Mission Control / I have "Displays have separate Spaces" turned OFF.
