iPod touch 4th generation not working with xcarlink

Can anyone help. I was bought recently an iPod touch 4th generation to use with the xcarlink iPod interface. I can not seem to make it work either comes up with not compatible for charging! I can nt get the music to play through the car stereo speakers , however an older iPod worked fine as well as my iPod 2. Is there something I am doing wrong ? Is there any adaptor connectors I can buy to fix this very annoying problem ? Can anyone help ?

Sometimes this works:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

However, xcarlink is old and not infrequently an iOS update/newer model iPod breaks compatibility. All I can find on xcarlink's site is:

6) Support iPod 3, iPod 4, Nano, Nano 3rd, Video, Mini, Touch, Classic, iPhone
