Trying to connect two (2) iMacs to the same printer

I have two iMacs that I am trying to share a printer with. In System Preferences>sharing, I have the Printer sharing checked on both computers. When I go to print from my older computer it says,the printer is offline. I am able to print from my iPad but not the other iMac. Can anyone help me? Thank you. Robert
