My Mac mini lags really bad and gets hot. Will increasing the ram solve this or both of these issues?

My Mac Mini (2011) has been getting slower (lagging) over time as do all machines. But not this bad. The mouse cursor does not even smoothly go across the screen. I have also noticed lately the actual machine is getting hot. I only have 2 gb of ram. If I increase the ram will that improve the temperature and or lagging issue?

Thank you

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

The heating is caused by heat off the cpu. With fans and such, it shouldn't get too hot and Apple have designed this to be the case; check the computer is dust free and clean it out, ideally with compressed air to reduce static.

A for the lag, if the computer is running multiple applications it will struggle. You can view the ram usage in activity monitor, if it is near 1.5gb then that's the case, it's struggling. It may be the case the heat is throttling your cpu and is underperforming so again,

Give it a good clean from dust and allow air flow
