Will iOS 9 on an iPod Touch 5g work with iTunes 10.7?

*sigh* It's tricky when one thing has to be changed and that means everything else could fall like dominos!

Had to give up my ooooold iPod and now I'm looking at a used iPod Touch 5th generation to purchase, but I need to be sure that it can work with the iTunes on my Mac.

I'm not sure if it's the hardware that needs to be compatible (in which case any used 5g will be fine for me), or the iOS, or both?

I know the 5g could work with iTunes 10.7 originally but if I understand correctly, the iOS is automatically upgraded to 9.x when old ones are wiped out and restarted... so can a used 5g with iOS 9 work for me, or am I stuck?

(And if I'm stuck, is a used 4g old enough that it won't automatically upgrade that far?)

The latest iOS, 9.2.1, requires iTunes 112.3 or later.

For a Mac that mean OSX 10.8.5 or later.

For a PC Win 7 or later
