Q: 4th Gen NANO Power Switch

My Nano will not power on or off. It will turn on when connected by a USB cord to my mac. The battery is fully charged and I cam able to access all the screens. However when I disconnect the Nano from the USB the screen goes black and I am unable to power it off or on

If the screen "goes black," doesn't that mean the iPod is already "off" at that point?  If so, the most likely cause is a worn out battery that is no longer able to hold a charge.  That's why the iPod does not stay on when you disconnect it from power.
