Is the number 1(877)3880879 a legit number for Apple Care?

I am from Costa Rica and I received a call from a phone number 1(323)3150320, they told me they were calling me from AppleCare on regards of my lost Iphone 6. I didn't want to give any info over the phone without making sure first the call was legit. They told me they found my Iphone and they even gave me a case number and a call back (1(877)3880879) for me to verify this was real. The 877 number goes to "an apple answering machine", but since I don't have an extension number thats as far as I could get.

Was this call for real?
