how can I get a subtotals in numbers?

I was used to using categories in numbers09 to give me subtotals based on values in a column representing a chart of accounts.

How can I set up a sheet to give me subtotals and a final total?


I asked this question a few months back but can not find the responses from that inquiry.

You can create a summary table that extracts subtotals and a total using SUMIF or SUMIFS. The 'Personal Budget' template at File > New is a good example of how this can be done. Here is another (the first table the summary table, the second the data table that could have the relevant values from your chart of accounts in one of the columns):
