ipod touch 6th generation wont show up on Itunes (in Windows)

I just purchased an ipod touch, 6th generation. When I connect it via USB to my computer it does not show up in itunes. My previous ipod classic showed up on itunes just fine. The ipod does show up via the USB drive on my system (Windows), just does not show up in itunes, much less sync. Itunes is running the lastest version (12) and everything is up to date.

iPod touch, iOS 9.2.1

Do you have iTunes 12.3? You need that version and that requires Win 7 or later.
