iTunes won't connect my new iPhone

I've just bought a new iPhone 6s and tried to connect it to my iTunes so I can transfer my music, apps etc. onto it.

When I plug my iPhone into the computer via the USB socket, a message on my iTunes pops us.

It says my iPhone cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. It then says I should visit www.itunes.com to download the latest version.

My iTunes version is 12.2.2 which I believe is the latest version.

I've tried turning my iMac and iPhone off and on again but no change.

I would appreciate any advice on this matter. Thanks in advance.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Yeah, sorry, but you need iTunes 12.3.x to sync with an iOS device running iOS 9. You would need to upgrade your OS X on your Mac in order to download the most current version of iTunes.

Sorry 😟
