iCloud Drive

Hi! So I just turned my iCloud Drive on and had it visible on my Home Screen. When I opened it, it is empty. Is this normal? How do I store data into the iCLoud Drive and what type of data can i Store? ( like app data or apps themselves, or whatever) Thank you
