How get bookmarks bar back?

I just upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.11, I imported by bookmarks, but I can't get them across the top.

They are along the side, I don't like them over there, it is much easier to me to use the old bar from before.

So, how do I get them across the top again?

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11), i7 quad core, 8mb

Delm,

Try Safari>View>Show Favorites Bar, and Safari>View>Hide Bookmarks Sidebar.
