Q: can't connect airplay to appleTV 3 after sleep

This has gone on for a while, and I have read through numerous forums to no avail- -

My apple TV works great, except that after it goes to sleep, I can not connect to it via Airplay from any of my devices without restarting the appleTv

If I wake the appleTv, manually, I am still connected to my wifi, and can access netflix, my computers' itunes accounts, hbo go, etc, but if I go the other way and try to send something from my phone or computer via airplay, nothing happens unless I restart the Apple TV, in which case if works fine.   the only work around is to set the Apple TV to never go to sleep.  then it works fine, but this seems silly to have it on and sending a signal 24hours a day.

Any ideas would be much appreciated

    Hey there TheBigGzy,

It sounds like there's an issue using AirPlay with your Apple TV after your Apple TV wakes from sleep. The article below provides a lot of great information and troubleshooting tips that may help you resolve this issue, like updating to the latest software available for your devices and network troubleshooting tips for similar issues.

Get help with AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    Before you begin

    • Check that you have the latest software on your iOS device and Apple TV.
    • Make sure that you're streaming content from your iOS device to a television connected to an Apple TV, or to an AirPlay enabled speaker or receiver. You can't use AirPlay to stream content from your iOS device to another iOS device or to a Mac.

If your content gets interrupted or your network lags

If you have a weak Wi-Fi signal or interference from a nearby device, like a microwave or baby monitor, try these steps:

    1. Make sure that you're using the recommended settings for your Wi-Fi router.
    2. Move or turn off other devices that might cause interference.
    3. If possible, connect your Apple TV directly to your router with an Ethernet cable instead of using Wi-Fi.

Your AirPlay connection might get interrupted when you lock your device, put it to sleep, or switch to a different app.

    Cheers.
