SSD Conversion MacBook Pro Mid2012

All,

I am considering converting my MBP with 8gig of RAM, 500 gig HD to a SSD drive (1TB). I have an external 1TB USB3 drive that I use as my Time Machine. I have done some research and it seems I may need a SATA3/USB cable to do the conversion, which is not a big deal.

Looking for help in the easiest instructions to make the conversion happen. My MBP is still in excellent shape and feel this is a great upgrade, and also because my daughter got a 2015 SSD MBP and the thing flies!

I would get an external USB3 enclosure , put the SSD into that and clone your internal HD to the SSD.

Then swap the internal HD and the new SSD.

When you say "Clone" am I using Time Machine?

I don't really no how to do this so i'll be watching this thread but if you want to get some use out of the hard drive after it's been replaced you could purchase a USB 3.0 enclosure and use it as a an extra HDD
