Q: what does this kernel panic mean? hdmi dependency?

Installed windows 8.1 through bootcamp for gaming. A couple times previously OS X would be loading after I put in my password and would then crash and then windows would start. however this was all solved by a simple restart, and OS X would load fine. suddenly it started crashing every single time giving me a kernel panic. it will boot into safe mode, and i've repaired the permissions in disk utility in safe mode as well. still no difference. here is the crash report. if anyone can see something in this that would help me fix my mac i would be very grateful. Mid 2015 Macbook pro 15 inch on 10.10.5

What's really confusing me is that If i boot up with an hdmi plugged into the laptop then it works fine, but the screen remains off. In fact, i'm typing this in a normal boot (OS X not in safe mode) looking at my television. as soon as i unplug the hdmi, i get a kernel error and the computer restarts.
