Q: The trackpad on my macbook pro has stopped registering clicks

The trackpad on my macbook pro has suddenly stopped registering clicks. it is impossible for me to log in and use the laptop. After sending it for diagnosis at the nearest Apple shop, i was disappointed to hear that it is a motherboard fault. I need help.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Since you said "i was disappointed to hear that it is a motherboard fault." you can either live with the problem/use external mouse or replace the logic board.

Of course Apple's diagnosis shall be correct.

But, often there is another cause: the battery.

In Applications->Utilities->SystemInformation: select "Power" at the left side, then at the right side under BatteryInformation  see what it is said after "Condition:"

it should be "Normal", if it says something else, replace the battery.
