My Computer randomly awakes

I woke up this morning and my computer was awake and overheating. How cna I tell it was over heating? Because I have never herd the my IMAC sound like it and I could fried eggs on the screen it was so hot. This is a persistent issue. Also I unchecked all boxes in the energy saver utility.
