iCloud Calendar from Mac not synchronising with iPhone

When I try to view my subscribed calendar on mac, everything works fine, and all the events show up. However, my iPhone does not synchronise with the Calendar list on its own, so the only way to get the events is to completely turn off iCloud Calendars on the phone and turn them back on, which surely cannot be the intended way. Any help?
