Recently when dragging a photo or screenshot from the desktop either to print or add to a document, at first it goes to preview which I have to quit in order to get the photo to proceed. Sometimes a completely different photo appears making an additional step necessary to get back to my original photo. I would like to eliminate this step which is automatically sending photos to preview. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What system are you running?
Where are you dragging the screenshot to?
What app are you trying to use to print the screenshot?
What system are you using? Are you clicking and dragging? How fast is the double click speed set in the system preferences? Try changing it to something faster to see if that will prevent the .png screenshot from opening with Preview.
My iMac is running 10.8.5 Snow Leopard
My iMac is running 10.8.5 I click on the photo/screenshot then use 'print' under 'file'. The mouse speed is set on fast. I also notice that when I am printing 'dashes' (-------------) it goes very slow. I don't know if this is related or not.
Snow Leopard is 10.06.x, 10.8.x is called Mountain Lion. 🙂
Right click on the file & choose Opn with, select the App you want to open it with.
I got my cats mixed up. I tried your suggestion and it worked 4 times in a row. So thank you. (I saw that preview was the default setting, so no wonder. It never used to happen so I must have clicked on something wrong.) I hit the green check so I hope you get the credit.
