camcorder is inaccurate

What is shown while recording is slightly different than what is shown in the recorded video. In the video, the view is shifted slightly to the right. Thus, something on the left edge during recording does not appear in the video, while something just out of view on the right makes it in.

Does this mean the camcorder is slightly off-position, or is it one of Apple's quirks? I think it may be off-kilter, as the same issue on my iPad is minimal if even there. How can this be fixed?
