Apogee Jam 96K audio disconnect problem

I am using an Apogee JAM 96K with Garageband 10 on my MacBook Air (El Capitan). Everything sounds great but if if stop playing my guitar for about 2 minutes then the audio input from the Jam will disconnect. At that point the track input level signal stops registering and I can no longer hear my guitar through the headphones. If I go into Garageband preferences and re-select JAM 96K as the audio input device then my guitar signal returns and sounds normal once again. Is anyone else experiencing this problem and does anyone know how to rectify the situation? Thanks! Frank

I agree with you. I tried the Apogee Jam 96K and the iRig HD using two different Macbook Air computers (El Capitan) running Garageband. If you stop playing guitar for 90 to 120 seconds then you loose the sound. I tried deleting and re-installing Garageband but it did not correct the problem. I found a simpler solution to get back up and running. Instead of going into Garageband preferences and re-initiating the audio input device (e.g. Jam 96K), pressing the space bar to go into "play mode" (even if nothing has been recorded) will instantly bring back the sound. It looks like this is a bug that Apple just has to fix.

thank you.

I somehow solved using power supply instead of the macbook cell.

With power supply engaged garageband doesn't disconnect.

It could be a USB 3.0 issue even if with Logic Pro 9 i don't have any problem at all.

I tried to install class compliant from focusrite but nothing changed. Maybe you can try to istall class compliant drivers (?) from apogee...

i wrote to focusrite engineers and they answer me (i hope this can help with apogee):

Hi Mauro,
Thanks for your email. I must admit this is not an issue I have seen before
however hopefully we can get this issue resolved for you as quickly as
possible.

I would first suggest deleting some un-needed audio related preference files
from your system; please navigate to Mac HD -> System -> Library ->
Extensions -> check to see if 'FocusriteUSB2Audio.kext' and
'NovationUSB2Audio.kext' or similar are present. If they are, please delete
them - these are unnecessary drivers.
Next, can you please go to Mac HD > Library > Preferences > Audio and
in there please delete the two preference files. If there are four files then
two of these are likely duplicates, delete these as well.

Finally, please go to Finder > click 'Go' at the top of the screen > Hold
down the "Alt" key and click on the Library folder > Preferences.
In there please trash the file "com.apple.audiomidisetup.plist".
After doing this please empty the trash, then restart your system. Do you have
the same issues after this? If so, please connect the Scarlett 2i2 to a
different USB port - does the exact same issue occur now?
Please let us know how you get on and we can take things from there.
