Error with my macbook air

When i reset my mac book air a file icon with a question mark on it kept flashing on my main screen when i turned it on. This image kept flashing on and off and would not turn on my mac. Please help!!! I cannot use the mac any more!

iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), I cant download it

- Try starting in Safe Mode

- Boot to Recovery and repair the startup disk

- If it is repairable reinstall the OSX

How to reinstall OS X on your Mac - Apple Support

- If you do not have a backup use disk utility to restore the internal disk to an external disk so you can try to recover data.

Then format the startup disk and do a fresh install of OSX

If a flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
