Podcasts App doesn't work in new iPad mini 2

The Podcasts app doesn't work on my new iPad 2 mini. All the other apps work OK. Tapping the icon results in an almost blank screen, with just some greyed out options along the bottom which don't do anything. There is a plus sign at the top left hand corner, tapping brings up request for the podcast's URL.

I wonder if I should delete and reinstall the app. (How?)

Well, the old shut down and restart trick seems to have fixed it. Should have tried this before I posted.
