Itunes wont download to external drive?

I recently changed the location of my Itunes library, on my mac, to an external hard drive (not stuff i have already downloaded, just new stuff). Now when i try to download new stuff, it says "there was a problem downloading "...", you do not have the privilege to make changes? How do i fix this?
