a software problem.

I tried updating it via iTunes on my pc but it says the phone could not be updated. i tried to recover the phone but thats failing too. I can not even use the phone anymore because when I switch it on it prompts me to connect to iTunes and when I do this, it still fails to update or recover. please help.
