I have some archival footage from 16mm film that has been converted from mp4 files to mov files.
How were the files converted?
Is the format the files were converted to FCP friendly?
The .mov file extension is like a cardboard box labeled "movies inside". It doesn't reveal the type of movie that is in the box.

Open the file in QuickTime Player and go to the menu Window > Show Inspector and report what the inspector says.
