MacBook Pro 13' OS X Yosemite start up problems

I've had a problem starting up my Macbook for awhile now and have been meaning to take it up to get looked up. it hasn't turned on for about 2 weeks now and as I went to book it in it had turned on, but as it got halfway through starting up a message popped up on the side of the screen Which went on with something to do with kernel extentions in backtrace etc. I'm not a huge computer person so I'm not to sure what any of this means. My laptop does start up in safe mode, so I'm wondering while on safemode if their is any way I can wipe everything off the MacBook pro(files are backed up) and reset it so it will work? Or am I going to have to take it in to the apple shop?
