screen faulty?

I was using my phone just as you do when all of a sudden the screen just froze so I put my phone to 'sleep'. A few minutes later I try to access my phone but the screen doesn't even turn on. The phone still works cause it does that noise when you plug in the charger to tell you its charging. So,epme please help me because I don't want to be paying for a phone I cannot even use.
