Cannot Synch or Backup iPod Touch

Hi, some help please. I have an older iPod Touch (model MB376ZO) and I am now getting the dreaded ‘iTunes could not back up the iPod because the backup
was corrupt or not compatible with the iPod’ error. I have tried everything I can find on the net. I have deleted the backup, I have deleted the folder, I have disabled my Norton security, I have restored the iPod, I have the latest version of iTunes. I am not worried about retrieving a backup as there is only
music on the device and that is all stored on iTunes. I cannot synch the device because I get the error message above. It is not the PC or the cable as I also
have an iPad which is synching perfectly. Can anyone help or offer advice please?
