Mid 2010 MAC OS X 10.6.8 processor 3.2 i3,4 GB 1333 3DDR. Trying to upgrade to El Capitan for the last 10 hrs. Only shows as waiting ? Went to Apple chat support and waited 45 minutes with no reply except to see the drop down with the two "tech" support specialists. Never received the Email with a link ?

if you attempted to DL from the app store you may need to delete the cache.
open terminal and type
open $TMPDIR../C/
then delete the com.apple.appstore folder
then download 10.11 again from the App Store

Thanks for the quick reply but when I open terminal through applications and enter open $TMPDIR../C/ I get does not exist ? Where am I wrong ? I think I'm in the wrong place.
