Syncing primacy of Mac Mini

When I update a playlist held on my Mac Mini the iPhone will override this when I sync taking it back to the version on the iPhone losing the changes I made. Sometimes it will add another playlist xxx-1 to the Mini, which I presume is in case I have made changes to the iPhone playlist but I need for the Mac Mini to be the prime source for the playlist ... anybody help please?
