Question

using a temporary sim card

I am going on holiday and will use a local sim in my iphone6 - what happens to my contacts on my home sim card? can they still be access on the iphone with the local sim?

The iPhone does not store any data at all on the SIM.

Nothing whatsoever will happen to contacts when you change sim cards, because contracts or anything else for that matter are not stored on the sim card. All stored on the phone itself.

iPhones are different to androids in that they don't store anything on the sim card - which is why you need iTunes.
