I have three Apple devices. iCloud provides me with 5 GB of storage. Each device shares my photos. When my photos are backed up to the cloud are they backed up individually or do they back up as one photo? so either once or three times?

I have three Apple devices. iPhone -iPad mini - iPad pro. Each device shares the same photos. When my photos are backed up to iCloud for storage is each photo backed up once or backed up three times because of three devices?

Once. iCloud is a syncing system, not a backup system.

If you have the iCloud Photo Library enabled, your photos aren't being backed up to the cloud at all.

If you do not have the library enabled, the original photos for each device would be backed up, but not photos seen in shared albums or photo stream photos.

The photos backed up would be found in your Camera Roll.
