ALL my applications are unresponsive.

ALL my apps are WAY slow to respond, and are getting slower. I have the latest version of El Capitan.

The model Identifier: iMac12,1 refers to a iMac (the 21.5 inch, Mid 2011 model). This is a non-retina iMac.

The listed specs imply that this is the low end version so this model is likely to come with a traditional HDD or a Fusion Drive (HDD + SSD combo).

The slow response could be due to a failing HDD (SSDs tend to simply stop when they fail). Open Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, select the physical drive and check its S.M.A.R.T. status. If the result isn't Verified, then it's probably time to get a replacement drive.
