Garageband 10.0.3 won't record software instruments

When trying to record a drum track using a software instrument with the onscreen keyboard, Garageband 10.0.3 won't record. You hit the record button and nothing happens. Using a macbook air 13 inch early 2015, 1.6 ghz intel core i5, running yosemite 10.10.5.

I've tried:

  • closing garageband and restarting.
  • hard reboot

No luck. Help!

GarageBand 10, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

is it possible that you are attempting to record on a "Drummer" track?

a Drummer track is automated, you set parameters and GB creates the drum regions, you can not record on one.

if you wish to record your own MIDI drum performance, create a Software Track, and select a drum patch from, the library.
