iPhone lightning cable plugged at angle

I went to plug in my iPhone to charge and I had an Otterbox Defender on while I was doing so. Since the flap for accessing the lightning port was in the way, I tried to plug it in kind of at an angle. I had to use a lot of force to put it in and now I am worried that something inside the Lightning port may now be broken or bent. Is it possible to break something inside the Lightning port? Right now it still charges.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2.1
