Memory upgrade for beige Mac Plus

I have just bought a memory upgrade for my Beige Mac Plus, four 1 MB SIMMs to replace the 256 KB SIMMs. A tutorial tells me to: ”clip both the R8 and R9 resistors to use 1 MB SIMMs” – is this really necessary?

I don’t want to do anything stupid.

Okay, so I made the “clip” after watching a tutorial on YouTube <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdnrZGGAxK8>.
