Deleting synched photos from iPad

I followed the directions on how to delete synched photos from my computer off my iPad. They have disappeared from 'albums,' but they still exist under 'photos.' How can I delete them permanently, so if I click on 'photos' on my iPad, I won't be able to see them? When I try to select them, the trash can becomes unavailable.
