SSD doesn't show up in Disk Utility when trying to reformat MacBook Pro

I am trying to reformat my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) because I got the folder with a question mark when trying to turn it on. Once I started the online recovery process and opened Disk Utility my SSD did not show up, therefore I can't erase it nor reinstall the OS. Any help would be much appreciated.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Since 1) you cannot find the SSD with the disk utility program and 2) you get a folder with a question mark when you boot up I’d say your SSD is dead. Unfortunately you are probably looking at a visit to your Apple Genius.
