Did you have to pay a fee or anything for them to fix it? And do you know if they replace your phone for free? Please help!! Thank you in advanced
The phone will not have to be replaced.
You can try fixing it yourself:
I set my iOS device to January 1, 1970...
If that fails, take it to Apple. They have been taking care of it for people. By taking it to Apple you avoid the possibility of further damage by unauthorized service.

Feb 17, 2016 2:44 AM in response to diamond_marie15by Lawrence Finch,The quick and easy way that is always free and guarantees that you will not lose your warranty is to take the phone to an Apple store. See: If you changed the date to May 1970 or earlier and can’t restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Feb 17, 2016 3:39 AM in response to Lawrence Finchby yiddo1975,Hi, after foolishly doing the exact thing myself, (i know, brain ****), and a subsequent conversation with Apple, they've said it isn't in warranty, but they can still fix it if i pay them £200. I.m thinking, if it is out of warranty, should i not just take it to an independent repairer and let them disconnect the battery??

Feb 17, 2016 3:43 AM in response to Lawrence Finchby yiddo1975,And i have tried the DFU restore you had suggested, it goes so far, then freezes after it downloads the software/firmware etc. the little black bar starts to restore then stops at less than 10%. it is on charge plugged into the wall, doing nothing very slowly.

Where did he (or any of us) say it always worked?

Correct. But going to an Apple store ALWAYS works, is free, and preserves the warranty status of the phone. A no-brainer.

Right. I only have that and go to college. So hostile. I tried everything and it didn't work so I went to Apple. Case closed. I believe that everyone should try the stuff from the earlier posts, even though it didn't work for me. However, a quick trip to Apple fixed It. If nothing else works everyone can wait 2 weeks for their phone to completely die
Please point out where someone was hostile with you.
